v002 Update



Maps

  • roberta's Museum map changes:
    • Players will now die if they fall out of the map.
    • A bunch more lasers have been added.
    • Geometry and Collision have been updated.
    • With these changes, the map is now much closer to the definitive BOLD: Networked Newt Action experience.
  • 2 WIP maps have been added. They're not complete maps by any means, but we're leaving them in for you to be able to check them out.

Gameplay

  • Spy Flash Grenade has been repurposed into a Chaff Grenade. You can use them to disable Merc gadgets and lasers.
    • Spies will throw the grenade at their feet if the weapon isn't eequipped
  • You can now ping with Y.
    • Your character will bark/click/hiss when you do. (did you know roberta did the voice clips?)
    • (Everyone will see you get a cool lil doohickey over your head and hear a Thrilling And Original Sound Effect. Keep pressing it all you want, they aren't going to come save you from the other team, sorry. —silentw, as he wrote in the SVN commit)
  • Merc mines now check for Line of Sight before being "primed" to explode.
    • Merc mines now also have a bigger delay between being primed and exploding.
    • There's also a sound that plays when it's primed (did you know Unreal comes with a bunch of sounds that were used in UE4? yeah, the editor had sounds back then, and I still miss them to this day —Vivian).
  • A bunch of things that didn't have sounds now do.
    • Merc EMVision has been tweaked.
    • The graphics bug has also been fixed. woops, still hasn't been fixed actually. Open the console and type "r.ScreenPercentage 100" and that will fix it, but the game will need to run at native resolution.
    • EMVision will not show Spies unless they're using a gadget. This also means nightvision and using your weapon will make you visible to Mercs in this mode.
    • "Shootable Lights", Doors, Objectives and all the various gadgets will also show up.
  • UI elements for objectives have been updated.
  • Objectives will now show "Neutralized" when neutralized.
  • Merc flashlight transform has been tweaked and radius has been increased.
  • Weapon data has been tweaked and rebalanced.
  • Various gadget data has been tweaked and rebalanced.
  • As a Spy, if you pressed the Left Mouse Button, then equipped your weapon, the weapon would fire right away. This is now fixed.

Misc

  • "Create Session" now opens a map browser and has options to use LAN and disable advertising in the Server Browser.
  • An "Options" menu has been added. For now it just has graphics options.
  • You can now open the Pause menu in-game (which doesn't pause, cause it's a multiplayer game. I called this menu the Game Menu, because that feels like a more accurate name, but it still doesn't feel right, lmao! —Vivian)
    • The host can now restart the match and kick players
    • The players can disconnect from the game without needing to Alt+F4 or typing `open Menu` in the console
  • You may notice VentGame-v002 show up in the Create Session and Join Session menus. These widgets indicate the game version and you will not be able to play with people that have a different version.
  • UI animation has been tweaked and a few things have been fixed.
  • Demo recording now works! Refer to the console commands on the Unreal Engine docs.
    • We are absolutely not supporting forward compatibility with newer versions, just so you know. —Vivian

Thanks for checking out the update! I had a lot of fun writing these changelogs, and I hope this, as well as the game itself, help show the genuine joy of sharing the game development process with folks. It's been a blast working with this team for the past 3 weeks!
